It really is as good as it looks in the pictures. Right on a private beach in a protected cove with about 2 miles of walking beach in front. When the afternoon sun becomes hot, the pool area provides a nice relaxing and shaded area to enjoy the sound of the ocean with your own private pool. Easy walk to stores and restaurants. Laura was very attentive to our every need. Many other attractions nearby, but we were just interested in the beach. We had a great relaxing time in Costa Rica.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Malibu. This property was perfect for the two of us. We enjoyed walking the beach, relaxing by the pool and exploring the area. Laura is very nice and helpful in suggesting activities and restaurants to visit. We would definitely recommend this property to any couple looking for a beautiful, quiet place to stay.
This property was perfect for our week stay. Laura is the prefect hostess, she has a beautiful property, pool and location on the beach. The apartment is clean, modern and very comfortable. The beach is perfect for walking with yoga nearby. Several nice places to eat, but the apartment is well equipped for meals. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants a peaceful, comfortable vacation!
The Sol Suite was the perfect place for my girlfriend and I. It had all the necessities and space for our comfortable clean weeklong stay. Since we had already been in CR for the week, we really appreciated having the use of a washer and dryer. We had a very peaceful and relaxing experience. The property is beautifully maintained by Marvin, the live in caretaker. The beach out front was mostly all our own and was very safe for swimming. The patio and infinity pool was great for sitting with a cocktail and enjoying the spectacular sunsets this area offers. Laura was very helpful arranging a sunset cruise and made several good suggestions for a more enjoyable stay. There are several restaurants and a small store within walking distance in the quaint little neighborhood. We would definitely recommend this property as we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
We've been raving to all of our friends about Villa Malibu, but now it's time to let the internet know! We stayed at Villa Malibu for ~10 days, and didn't want to leave. The accommodations were perfect - the kitchen was well stocked, everything was clean, and the views were unforgettable. Laura was a fantastic hostess! She tried to stay out of our way towards the beginning of our trip, but as we got to know her better, we had some lovely conversations. She was very helpful and courteous and was always available to help us book an excursion or negotiate with the locals. Potrero is a quiet beach community - exactly what we were looking for. I loved the calm waters to swim in, and when I needed a change of pace, we retreated the 10 steps back to the pool! So convenient to refill our drinks in the suite and lay by the pool. There are also a number of very good restaurants within walking distance, which was great when we didn't feel like cooking. Villa Malibu was absolutely beautiful and our vacation was perfect in every way. We had such a fantastic trip, and I can't imagine anything that could have been better.
This one room studio has everything you need to be comfortable, with good-quality furnishings and all the little extras you might need. The owner, Laura is friendly and helpful, and she will help make your stay more enjoyable. The infinity edge lap pool is next to the beach and it's a great way to relax or cool off. The area is quiet and tranquillo, and it's easy to see why Laura loves living on the property.
My wife and I had an awesome time at this property. Laura (owner) happened to be staying in the other suite while we were there and we were able visit with her too. The Sol Suite is perfect for a couple, it's small and easy to get around in. It had everything necessary for cooking simple meals and has an excellent view of the property. The pool is perfect for jumping in and cooling off. The beach is just beyond the the pool and excellent for walking and watching the sunset. Excellent restaurant "The Hibiscus" within walking distance, make reservations. Can't say enough about this property, definitely will try and go back again someday!! Thank you Laura!!
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the pure vida this wonderful property brings to life. Through great communication with the owner and onsite care you will be set for a carefree time in Costa Rica. The location is wonderful on the the best stretch of tranquil Playa Protero. Close beach and in-town reataurants and grocers make dining in or out simple and fun. We rented a car and found driving easy and enjoyable. Although, with the beautiful property including the pool and bar area it is hard to leave, but easy to return to at the end of a day's adventure. I trust the owner and her team implicitly. My only reluctance in writing this review is you (the reader) will have booked this property the next time I'm able to get back to Costa Rica. If so, you won't regret it!!! Book early because this place is awesome.
The property was private, clean, and well-kept. The room had everything we needed. The maid was sweet and took good care of us. There are plenty of places to eat close by. The description of the place was accurate. It was easy to check in and out. I would recommend the Panache sunset cruise while staying there. It was worth the money and very memorable. The crew was awesome.
The picture of the view from the grounds says it all. We were looking for a place where we could see the ocean from out bed. Found that and more. The 40 ft salt water lap pool was a highlight. The beach was just out the gate and beautiful. Most inviting we found for swimming. We had no need to venture far but options for a variety of activities and tours are readily available. Local produce, seafood food and bakery are close if you chose to do it yourself. The kitchen area of the Luna unit was very compact but had everything that was needed. The unit met our needs perfectly and the air conditioning provided a comfortable nights sleep. All the details of the property were carefully designed for guest convenience. Laura and Fabiola took great care of us, while providing an environment where we could pretend it was our private retreat - which it was.
This is one great find! We rented Villa Malibu (both units) with our friends for a week. Wow, talk about a chilled out, low key, laid back vacation. This is exactly what we were looking for. You could do as much, or not, as you wanted. Walking the beach, swimming laps, reading, sunning, fishing, and an occasional drive for sightseeing. Potrero is definitely NOT a high tourist threat. The units are modern, clean, and easily accommodate your everyday needs. We ate a few lunches out and about, but the rest of our meals we made "at home". It was fabulous to have our own private tiki hut to enjoy our meals and happy hours while enjoying the beautiful beach sunsets. Plenty of food shops nearby. Daily maid service to include clothes washing if you want. Scheduling the property and check-in/out were a breeze. Laura--you have thought of everything--thank you so much!
This property is amazing! Right there on the oceanfront we had wonderful accommodations with a great infinity pool that included a large bar with lighted palapa (No pool bar service though. 😃) Next to the pool area was a restroom and three outdoor showers. It had amazing amenities for only two rentals. The studio was spotless and included daily maid service by an amazing lady who lives on the ground floor under one of the two rentals. She was available at all times. When communicating was difficult because we have not learned Spanish yet, I emailed Laura, the owner and got an immediate helpful response. Both wanted to be sure we were enjoying our stay. We rented the smaller of the two units where counter space and floor space was limited but it was just fine for our weeklong stay. We highly recommend staying here. In fact we think it would be really fun to rent both units with friends next time!
This place was amazing , we've been to Costa Rica numerous times , I'm really glad we found this place our visit recently we here in Costa Rica for three weeks so our first week was staying here , well we didn't leave this place , the swimming pool, the views , nice landscape the owners we're fantastic & the place was very clean, I would definitely come back , thanks again Laura & Tom it was a pleasure!! We'll be back for sure
My Fiancé and I live in Costa Rica and we rang in the new year at villa Malibu. We were looking for something private on the beach and villa Malibu was a perfect fit. The property is very well taken care of and the sunsets from the pool are spectacular. We spent our days bouncing from beach to beach and our afternoons cooling down in the pool. The pictures really do speak for themselves and we would recommend this property to anyone.
Let me begin by saying that we recently had a wonderful two week stay in Luna suite at Villa Malibu. The suite was exactly as the photos depict and the accommodations were very nice, we enjoyed relaxing at the pool daily. The bay was great for walks (no rocks), watching the birds and local fishermen. The water here is calm but snorkeling is better at the beaches named later. Many happy memories of the restful two weeks, and we truly hated to leave. We were definitely glad we had a vehicle as we were able to explore the many beaches and restaurants nearby. We used GoogleEarth to find the beaches as there are no road signs. Our favorites were Conchal with the white shell sand and clear water, Penca and Prieta were smaller with few to no tourists and Las Catalinas because it had the blackest, finest sand I have ever seen. Pay attention to the undertows at these beaches if you have children. We met several ex-pats and locals; they were especially helpful and friendly. The housekeeper was wonderful (towel swans on the bed was a nice touch). Had a little challenge with language but that is because we don’t speak Spanish, but all worked out well, If you like to eat out try: Soda Marcell – Potrero - (Arroz con pollo/camerones), no English but really helpful Las Brisas – Potrero - (Huge shrimp in garlic butter - not on the menu, so you have to ask, a little pricy but well worth it) Sugar Beach Hotel - on the way to Las Catalinas - (Chicken nachos) Green House - Las Catalinas - (Try the local dish: Chifrijo) Stop by the Pura Vida Ride for a chat. Thanks to Ivan at Tamarindodreamersadventure.com for a wonderful horseback excursion in Brasilito. Be sure to ask him for options as he will create an adventure for you based on whatever you want to see and do. The massages at Zen Spa at Flamingo Beach resort were OUTSTANDING. Delia is a master at finding the problem areas and working them out. She was so good, we went back to her the next week. There is a local guide book in the condo for other suggestions. It was really fun to be there for the first rain and the “great crab migration”, and can’t say enough about beach right outside the back gate and the AMAZING SUNSETS! WOW!!! Internet worked well the entire stay, even at the pool. Thanks for assembling a great vacation home.
This property is a lovely place to park yourself for a week, or use it for a base to explore the neighbouring areas. We love to walk, so each day we'd would walk to either Playa Flamingo, Playa Prieta or Playa Penca - all lovely beaches. Playa Poterero, where the suites are located, is a beautiful beach to look at, and the sunsets are spectacular, but for swimming, we preferred the other nearby beaches. There are lots of restaurants to walk to, or a quick cab ride away; or you can cook in your suite. The unit is very attractive, well equipped and spotless. The building Manager is very helpful if you need anything. We really enjoyed the beautiful pool at the end of the day to swim, lounge and watch the sunsets. We stayed seven nights and found that perfect for us. The one other unit was unoccupied for the first 5 nights, which left the pool area all to us for that time. Highly recommend this spot as one of your stops in Costa Rica.
First time visiting Costa Rica and learned a few things during our stay but the one thing I wouldn't change is choosing Villa Malibu as our first place to stay. We were on a ten day vacation but unfortunately we were unable to stay the full ten days because Villa Malibu was already booked but we did get an amazing 6 days. It was like having our own private oasis. We woke everyday at 5:30, had our coffee and then strolled the beach. It was perfect having access to a kitchen and helped save us some money by enjoying our breakfast looking out at the ocean. I really can't say enough. Great hospitality by the couple that lived on premise. However I do know that by the time I return I will be more fluent in Spanish. We found some great places to eat. La Pearla was a favorite of ours and already miss their reasonably priced food!!! Dani at the Shack made us feel very welcome. Both places are within walking distance. It has come to our attention that we belong on the beach. Can't wait to do it again!!! Thank you Laura. Hope to see your beautiful place again!
Villa Malibu was Pura Vida my now husband and I stayed there for our wedding, which took place on Penga beach. Our 2 week stay in the Luna was amazing, so peaceful, very clean, fully equipped kitchen loved to to be able to have a fresh fruit smoothie every morning, listening to the sound of the birds and seeing the friendly iguana we named Fabio. Fabioloa the care taker was so helpful and friendly with her friendly smile) Great quality sheets and towels, also have use of a BBQ. Close to Wendy's a little shopping market and also a fruit and Vegetable market. There are many places to eat, if you would like to eat out The Shack, Beach house, El coconut.. Wish that there was a patio to have morning coffee and evening cocktails, but down by the pool was nice as well. The area is great for walking the beach. I would recommend this place to a friend or reliative
My wife and I rented the Sol Suite at Villa Malibu and our experience was 10 out of 10. It is very clean, quiet and right on the beach!! The Wi-Fi was up and running all week as well and the speed was great which was nice as we could still keep an eye on home. We were 100 feet from pool on the property and 200 feet to the beach. Roughly an hour from the Liberia Airport and it was probably the quietest beach I have ever seen. I would stay here again for sure. Thanks again Laura!!
My wife and I celebrated our Honeymoon at Villa Malibu Suites and were COMPLETELY satisfied. Our stay was exactly what we wanted. Privacy, Beachfront, and spectacular. Everything about this trip concerning the owners, property managers and especially the on-site caretakers was phenomenal!! If we are ever blessed enough to return to Guanacaste, I will Definitely stay here again. The pictures are true representations of what you get. No camera tricks or embellishing. Beautiful property, well maintained, clean, comfortable for 2 people. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a relaxing vacation. If your looking for party atmosphere, go stay in Tamarindo. There are a handful of decent restaurants within a 10 minute beach walk. Definitely go to "The Shack" at least once. We ate breakfast there every morning of our stay. Thank you Laura for an unforgettable vacation
We had an amazing time at Villa Malubu. It couldn't be better. Everything was perfect. The houses are beautiful, the pool is amazing and there is a woman who takes a good care of everything and makes you fell comfortable. We felt safe and we had a perfect vacation. The owner takes a good care of the place and we had everything we needed in the Luna Suite. I recommend the place!
Well... what can I say... this place is absolutely spectacular. The property is in amazing shape; pool, grass, studio, dishes... everything! I have stayed in homes, villas, studios everywhere and quite a few in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Your studio stands out as the best, it lacks nothing. The landscaping is beautiful and keeps the property very private, the pool is crystal clear and at a perfect temperature. My girlfriend and I had one of the best getaways we ever had. THANKS!!!
I spent three weeks in Costa Rica, this was my first stop and I found it ideal for getting used to the climate and culture. I signed up for a week and ended up adding on time at this property. Incredibly relaxing, right on the beach, the pool is fantastic. Had some shade to it, so it was very nice being in the pool and looking out over the bay during the heat of the afternoon. Lots of wildlife everywhere, it’s a delight to sit around and see what cruises by. Janet is very nice and keeps the property in great condition, and her cat is a crack-up. The unit is comfortable and everything has a brand-new feel to it. The a/c is good, great little neighborhood, and a fresh produce mart is not far down the road. Well-stocked kitchen, the manual juicers were a thoughtful touch. Very home-y too, and great just lying in bed enjoying the view. Sunsets were world-class. As a solo traveler I spent a lot of time driving around, picking up local hitch-hikers and subjecting them to my version of Spanish, and after thoroughly seeing the area, I knew that I had a really good thing going at Villa Malibu. Got lots of ooh's and ahh's from fellow passengers on my zipline tour bus when they dropped me off and the electric gate slid open to reveal the beautiful grounds and pool/cabana area. Highly recommended for your time in Guanacaste, well-located. Near some tourist-y areas, but far enough away where you feel you’re part of the local commiunity.
Thanks for allowing us the opportunity to stay at the Luna suite at Villa Malibu. We thought the accommodations were fantastic. Our first impression was how secure we felt with the gate at the entrance to the driveway. The grounds were taken care of very nicely. Not a thing was out of place. The pool was nice as it was actually a swimming pool. A lot of others we saw were more like pools to wade in or sit in but you could actually swim laps in yours, even if they were short ones. The pool furniture was nice too. The cushions on the lounge chairs made them very comfy. And the shower and bathroom by the pool made lounging outside so much easier. Even if someone thought the pool was to small there is a little thing called the Pacific Ocean just on the outside of the fence to swim in as well. The location was great. Once we stepped into the studio we were impressed as well. Once again, spotless. The housekeeping and ground staff do a great job. They were always available if we needed anything. The kitchen is well appointed with all the normal stuff for cooking. My wife found everything she needed to make the meals we did in the suite. Plenty of room for two people to sit, eat, and chill out. We spent one week in a larger house earlier and realized that all we really needed was a studio like yours to be happy and still enjoy our trip. Just the right amount of space. The free Wi-Fi was a great bonus as well. I appreciated the books you have on hand if we needed one. I contributed a book to your collection for someone else to enjoy. I can only read a book once. We enjoyed your Villa very much.
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Villa Malibu! It was relaxing and quiet and the grounds are as beautiful as on the website. We spent most of our time going between the pool and the beach in front of the property and some time exploring other local beaches. We went into Tamarindo one day and were so glad we didn’t stay there because it was so crowded. The suite was equipped with everything we could possibly need for our stay and the bed was extremely comfortable. The caretaker and her family do a fantastic job of maintaining the grounds and the office staff were great at helping us line up a couple of excursions. As much as it was nice to have the place to ourselves for the first 4-5 days, the couple who moved into the Luna suite were a lot of fun to spend time with and we even went for dinner with them a couple of times. I would absolutely recommend the Sol Suite to anyone who is looking for a relaxing holiday. It is off the beaten path but there are restaurants and stores close by so you have everything you could possibly need.
This property is in great shape. It has all the amenities needed to have a great time. There are restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. Laura and her team made the arrival seamless. Walking from the garden right into the beach was awesome. Playa Potrero is a nice beach to swim and walk. The swimming pool provides a great place to relax with a magnificent ocean view, and the perfect place to watch the sunset. I wish I could stay longer. We will definitely go back. I highly recommend Villa Malibu
This is a wonderful property on a beautiful beach on the Pacific in Costa Rica. The lodging is clean and comfortable with lots of amenities. We prepared our breakfast and ate it pool side every day. We swam in the ocean, sandy bottom, and lounged at the pool and pool side. When we had a problem with the plumbing, the property manager responded immediately. The onsite caretaker cleaned every day and freshened out linens as needed. This location provided the rest we were looking for.
Villa Malibu was perfect!!!! The pool was so nice, the view from the room was stunning. My husband and I loved the location because we did not want the hassle of renting a car which was no problem as we were close to several restaurants and markets and took walks to other beaches around the rocky points at low tide. The condo was immaculate and had all the supplies we needed for making meals and cocktails. The air conditioned room was a luxury in the afternoon when we wanted to take a break from the sun for a little while. We had plenty of clean towels included big, fluffy beach towels....which is not always the case with some rentals. The groundskeeper and her family were so nice and so respectful of our alone time at the pool, etc. Swimming in the ocean in front of the condo was very good....water was calm on most days and the beach was clean and often secluded. The management company was very nice upon our arrival. My family had contacted them from home to give me a message upon check-in that my father was very ill. They made me feel much better and calmer with expressions of concern and offer to use the phone in the office to call home when needed. My husband and I hope we are lucky enough to stay at Villa Malibu again. It was a very relaxing and romantic destination.
First of all let me thank you and congratulate you for the amazing property you have over at Potrero, the property's even better looking than in photographs (which were absolutely amazing). The property is obviously well taken care of, everything's clean, well maintained and just perfect. The caretaker was extremely nice to us, cleaned the suite everyday and left everything spotless. We had an amazing time, this truly is one of the best properties I've ever been to in this country and will certainly be going back as soon as possible. I have recommended the property here at work (Guanacaste is highly visited area amongst Costa Ricans as you may know) as well as to my friends and family. Once again, congratulations on your property and thank you very much for a wonderful weekend.
This was our very first visit to costa rica and also using vrbo and much to my surprise, the experience could not have been better. The owner, the housekeeper and the property management company excellent. The suites were clean, the beds comfy, the property and pool well maintained. Our days were blissful starting with waking up to the sounds of birds and the ocean, having our first cup of coffee while watching the pelicans, walking the large beautiful beach with hardly a soul on but local fisherman in the ocean, enjoying the lap pool with the local iguana and birds who stopped by for a drink. In the evenings the sunset, the breeze and then all those stars were remarkable. The neighboring dogs and wandering cows made it fun too. Our days were busy as there are many beaches to see with our favorites being playa la penca, playa flamingo, and playa conchal. One of the thrills is riding the local buses. You can easily get to Tamarindo-very touristy, and Brasilito which we really enjoyed. Loved seeing the locals riding their horses. One tip, if you do not get a direct bus to your location, Huacas is a connecting point. We even took a day trip to Liberia with the bus trip being almost the highlight. We surfed with Point Break Surf, Matt and Natasha, they were amazing, and we surfed playa grande. We rented a scooter and toured the area on our own including going to Santa Cruz. We went to get gelato at Flor di Pacifico in Potrero. We shopped at Super Wendy around the corner and found it to be fairly good. Grocery stores are very different here. During our visit, on Thursday afternoons a truck would come by the suites to sell melons and oranges, which tasted fabulous. Or you could catch them throughout town. Mangos are fabulous here. Because we were vacationing for nearly three weeks, we had the fortune of learning to hear the monkeys, and once you recognize them, you can find them. They are in the neighborhood. Seeing them naturally was way better than seeing them thru a tour. As you can tell, we would highly recommend Villa Malibu. It was beautiful, peaceful, restful and allowed us to be still, to truly enjoy the moment. But amazing how fast the time went. There were lots of restaurants as well but we loved our time at home in the Sol suite. We were able to acquaint ourselves with the Ticans. Pura Vida.
Wow! Just looking at the pictures makes me long to be back. My husband and I began our honeymoon stay in the Villa Malibu for 4 nights and everything about it was perfect! The layout of the studio is great and the king size bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean and well taking care of. Marta, the maid and grounds keeper, was very kind and helpful. Not to mention that the view is breathtaking and the sunsets were stunning! We were the only guests at the time and we stayed in the Luna Suit, which is the bigger of the two. We had the infinity pool to ourselves and used it everyday while marveling over the incredible beach and ocean right in front of us. At night the crabs and frogs would come out and it was fun to watch them. If you are not into walking a whole lot to get to restaurants or attractions then we would definitely recommend having a car or getting a taxi. We didn't have one, but we didn't mind walking around. We really enjoyed hiking around and exploring the beautiful surroundings. We did take a taxi a couple of times at night. It is not hard to get a taxi, they are not expensive, and the drivers are very nice. El Castillo is a good restaurant that is close to walk to. We also walked to Playa Flamingo a few times, which is a good trek. If you go to Playa Flamingo make sure to go to Mar y Sol! It was the best happy hour and dinner we had while in Costa Rica. It was outstanding and one we still dream about! The customer service with the Villa Malibu was stellar. We would hands down recommend this studio to family and friends. It is ideal for a romantic getaway. It was the perfect beginning to an unforgettable honeymoon!
